Hi,
Whilst out today I had an encounter with a Buzzard which was pretty off putting. It certainly pumped some adrenaline through.
I was on a good slope too, so the effort was uphill. It called out. I looked up (not the thing to do) and it swooped. I automatically pushed on with head down and didn't look back for a good minute. Quite an experience. I'm thinking of keeping away from that area for a little while.
Is this sort of thing isolated or do others have tales to tell?
Meanwhile my T500 saw me through my ride; a glorious day. A 26 mile jaunt but my average speed was just 14.4 mph ( some good gradients though). Just a couple of drinks bottles and an orange.
Best,

Not quite Buzzard, but as going down a descent, I ended up with a huge fly wedged in my eye, and so as I frantically try and gouge the little bugger out my eye while attempting to steer wasn't all that fun of descent like it usually is. Not be leaving the house with my sunglasses now that's for sure.
It always does worry me though when I see birds seemingly swoop towards you, maybe it wasn't after you?

You do get reports in the press once in a while about riders getting buzzed by birds of prey.
I had loads of fun with sea birds in Iceland last year. They go ape when cycling past their nesting sites. The Arctic Terns were the worst.
Around here in Fleetwood, seagulls go on the attack every year at nesting time. We had one baby gull on the drill yard at the Fire Station. We looked after it so the parents didn't bother us. Anyone else walking past got dive bombed. We would turn the fire hydrant on so the little fella could have a wash, cool down and a drink. It got so used to it on one occasion it actually walked up to the fire hydrant to let us know what it wanted.

I've had 2 incidents of riding along side of deer that are panicing and sprinting down the roads.
Only other significant wildlife encounter was getting hit by a flying stag bettle... big it was... glad I didn't have my mouth open.

I had a 'Dances with Badgers' moment on the bike, plus one time a few bats flying around me.

I regularly have to dodge kamikaze squirrels on my commute. x1 hit (over the tail) and several near misses.

oh, and out of thousands of foxes I have seen all but one of them running away from me, there was one that actually chased me for the length of about 200m.

I've ridden parallel alongside a deer before on a cycle path about 5yrds away when spooked him about 6am one morning. Also on cotswold sportive 2 weekends ago riding along in group of about 5 and we obviously spooked a Buzzard or hawk in bush next to us and came out of hedge next to guy in front of me and swooped over him, swiping helmet with its talons. We could see the scratches in it at food stop! Unbelievable.
