(to a tune tune by Elton John) Taking a descent far too quickly (80kms/hr) I realised the bend was too severe for me. Braking as much as I dared I knew I would run out of space on the road unless I leant it over far more than I was confident to do which would lead to the inevitable results. As I got wider and wider my speed still didn't reduce enough and with a sickening realisation I knew I was heading for an almighty 'off'. Sure enough the bike drifted to the edge of the road and mounted the wet grass verge. Amazingly the bike held it's line, remained true, kept upright and I gingerly steered the noble beast back onto the road still doing a horrific pace. Reader, I'm not too proud to say that when I got to the bottom of the hill and stopped, I kissed my bike. If I believed in such things I would readily say that somebody was watching over me

Hey @volcanicflash that's quite a hurry on a 100 mile ride! Very glad to hear you came out of it unscathed. Flash by name... I can't ever imagine going at that speed on a bike!

Big difference between winter clothing and lycra!

Is there a screen grab for your heart rate? Glad you came out of it unscathed.

Here's a scenario that you might not think about...
Many years ago i was riding my motorbike over the Pickering Moors, in sight of the Fylingdales golfballs. There was a ferocious side wind sweeping up from the valley on my right, and up ahead was a right-hand corner. I pushed the bike over to take the corner, and the wind said 'no' and pushed it straight back up again, I had no choice but to do a bit of high-speed grass tracking whilst trying to bring it to a halt.
Shaken and embarrassed I continued with a bit less throttle.

A lucky escape - You may have been truly cream crackered if you'd have joined that fella who rode the penny farthing and had the same issue - Steve showed me the pic yesterday

Set off at 4 in the morning in full flannels and tweeds and still managed to cross the line smoking a pipe! Class!
