This new development by Strava is interesting. It shows any Strava users that you pass on route. All those that give you a nice friendly wave and cheery hello as well as those that totally blank you. labs.strava.com/flyby/

Its more interesting when you're on a Sportive or something, lots of people to check up on. On my ride tonight, not a single other person comes up, not surprising I only saw one other bike and that was being walked.
I do wonder whether this feature is only up in US hours or something, because sometimes its not available and appears to be the same time of day very time.

It worked well when I used it. Showed about a dozen members along the route.

I often use it and haven't had a problem with it not working. Weekends I usually have 15-20 other cyclists come up, weekdays tends to be 2 or 3 depending on the time of day. Randomly found my ex-best friend's current boyfriend on one ride this week, didn't know either of them cycled. Wasn't actually a fly-by but was close enough, and out at the same time. Stole the route he did as looks like a good one for my 100k haha.

I use it a lot, kinda fun for outings to the velodrome (on road bike night) to see who else was there going round and who was in my group.

On reflection maybe it is a case of 'it doesn't work for me when i am in the office'. Probably there is some blocking going on which means it doesn't work.

I quite like it to see what other routes people are doing - And to see who ignores me!

Seeing where other riders get to is definitely of interest. One guy who passed by yesterday suffered a snapped gear cable later in the day. Poor lad. I also often wonder what cycle clubs pass by and what routes they are doing. Also interesting to see where they stop as cycle clubs tend to be experts on choosing good cafes.

Ah this sounds interesting ! I'm new to strava having only used it for two rides. So where on the home page do I find the info regarding other strava users near by?
Thanks in advance.
Mark.

Use the link in the first post and copy and paste one of your rides into the box on the top right hand side of the page

If you use Veloviewer there is an icon to the left of the activity name on the activity list that is a direct link to the flyby in labs.....
