Hi, I purchased a triban 3 in white a couple of months ago and I hope I am now ready to cycle to work (15 miles each way). However due to back problems I want to fit a pannier rack rather than a massive weight in a backpack. Is the below any good? and will I need to change anything like the wheel spindle to fit this? www.decathlon.co.uk/pannier-rack-300-26-28-id_8242271.htmlThanks in advance

Should fit fine via bolting to threaded holes on rear stays.

He's got a 3 with fixing lugs?

Best he rings them - can't see why it wouldn't fit as it's only 4 bolt points but the geometry may be a bit odd, once past the fixing points, usually the issue is avoiding snarling the rear brake.

ill try and get into one of the stores, just thought I have mud guards as well so I suppose they could possibly get in the way

There's certainly an issue with some racks fouling the rear calipers. I modified mine to get it to fit and @usget has had issues with a mecca rack too.

I assume there is no recommended rack then?

I've got an old one Blackburn one off my MTB about 12 years old, bendable arms at the brake calliper area, fits fine - afraid it's not something I've bought very often.

The one I got to fit came off an old mountain bike, and fitted to the rear brake calliper bolt rather than seat stays but even that still needed modification.
There's a few people here who have racks on their Triban, I'm sure someone can recommend one.

There's certainly an issue with some racks fouling the rear calipers. I modified mine to get it to fit and @usget has had issues with a mecca rack too. I took mine off, but that was chiefly because of the stupid, crappy panniers which I got from Decathlon. NEVER AGAIN. The rack itself fit, so long as only one arm was attached to the bike - which didn't feel unsafe, but if you have OCD it'll bring you out in the sweats.

I'm in the market for Panniers - what have people got and how do they rate them?

I use a rack mounted on the seat post on my commutes, which are approaching 40 miles each way (I don't do it every day though). This solves the lack of frame mounts on the cross bike and also works on the T3. When I use the cross bike I go over all sorts of terrain and so far everything has been steady. You are a bit more limited on the weight you can carry (which helps me travel light to be honest) and it does sit a little higher than it would with a frame mounted rack but that doesn't seem to be a problem. The rack even survived my careless moment on the way home last Friday when I fell sideways before I could unclip - seems to be a common thing this past few days.
