Think I need to get one of those for my phone (well, a HTC Sensation one as I don't think I'd have much luck with a Samsung one haha). The battery is awful on mine. I can get maybe an hour of life with the screen on (total throughout the day, but it should be a lot better than that.) Just glad I don't need to use it to record my rides anymore, I don't think I'd get half an hour on it if the GPS was on and being used to track

After losing power on my 'phone I had a look under settings/power management/battery usage. All sorts of unnecessary stuff running. (Bluetooth, Facebook etc On that particular occasion I think it had been updating several apps. using mobile data. My Sony has it's own tools to manage standby modes which have been useful. The biggest consumer is the screen. Nowadays i use airplane mode but then for me being out of contact is one of the plus points of cycling.

yeah - i run my phone with everything turned off. if i leave bright screen, wifi, bluetooth, mobile data
just the essentials on - gps and phone signal.
the real pain is that strava only takes pics from instagram, which requires a mobile connection.

Does airplane mode nobble the GPS signal for strava or even strava for that matter I like the idea of a spare battery though not sure how feasible that is with an iPhone

The GPS and Strava still work on my phone for recording rides. That's with Android, Apple & Windows may be different. Simple enough to test.

Why can't we charge up with a dynamo off the front wheel? I'm sure lights used to run like this in the 70's
