My new SPD shoes arrived today and I'm wondering about the fit...how fitted should the shoes be?
They're not tight and generally very comfortable but my toe is quite close to the end of the shoe on one foot, not to the point where my foot is crushed at all but definitely pretty much right at the end. Is this normal? Or should I go to the next size up? My worry is that I have pretty narrow feet and I don't want to go up a size and they be too big but I don't want my toe to keep hitting the end of the shoe when I'm pedalling if I keep the current size.
Any advice greatly appreciated!

I'd say that was too tight. If your foot is touching the toe now, imagine what that will feel like after a few miles. If tightening the 'lacing' won't bring your foot back further, then you need the next size up. It's what i'd do, but they're your feet, but I'm guessing I'm telling yo what you already know is going to happen.

Yep - I guess I thought there might be a glimmer of hope that these would be the right size as it will mean no shoes till next week now probably

I'd echo what the Captain says, if it don't feel right now it's not going to get any better as you ride, with all your weight in the pedals. Also, not sure what socks you have on (and this is not one of those "what are you wearing?" questions) but presumably come colder weather you might want to beef up the sock thickness a bit, which will make things worse. Wise up and size up, I say! ;-)
