It's a fair review, obviously once you've ridden it a couple of thousand miles to get fit, you can change wheels, pick up a new group set and a few other bits (saddle, pedals, tyres etc.) in the sales and you'll be nearer 9 kilos; if you don't ride it loads, then no great shakes anyway, as the limitation will most likely lie with the engine.

Am I right in thinking the 500SE is simply the 3A or 300 with carbon forks? If so insted of waiting anyone looking to get one should go for the white 3A/300 and look to upgrade the forks which some here have done for around Β£50 giving an overall cost of Β£350, cheaper than the 500SE.

Not sure what the reviewer is talking about w/r/t not being able to fit mudguards - I had no problem on my T5. I checked my tyres and I have 700x23 Hutchinson Equinox's. Surely the T500SE doesn't come with 700x25?

Obviously, the definition of 'giant killer' is more subjective than I thought. For me, anything which can 'take on and beat' something 'twice or even three times the price' - whether it's bikes, cars, Jaccuzzis or sausages - could reasonably be described as a giant killer... it's the ratio that's important, not the amount being spent.
