Hi
Just wondered if anyones takes up the offer of a first free service whith Decathlon? The guy i bought the bike from a few weeks ago, said i could bring it back within 3 months for a Free service. Not sure if its worth the hassle of putting in the car boot - driving all the way back there - just for them to check the Brakes - or if they take there time and do a good service?
Cheers Andy

Hi @android, you will find quite a bit of feedback on the free service amongst the various threads on here, most of it very positive. I was really please with the indexing tweaks, minor brake adjustments and most importantly replacement rear wheel (free under warranty)as my original had very dodgy bearings and was making a nasty grating sound despite having been thoroughly cleaned and packed with grease not long after purchase. The friendly, no-quibble service at Wednesbury even encouraged me to spend a few extra quid on 'essential accessories' whilst I was there. Overall, unless its a massive round trip, or the bike is perfect then its worth doing. Alternatively, wait until the latest possible opportunity to get maximum benefit? Either way, the parts warranty is a couple of years I think (?) so you're pretty well covered for the future.

I took mine in with a rear wheel issue about about 5 months, they replaced the wheel under warranty and did the 6 month service, tweaking the gears and brakes. It's just down the road for me so not too bad. Any issues i've had with the bike i've always took it back in and they've fixed it right away, and had of parts replaced under warranty.

I did mine myself only because the nearest Decca is a ferry and train ride (or 2 hour cycle) away.

Fwiw, my service is due in the next week or so... Im not going to bother now though, having spoken to the storeas its a case of "bring it, and depending how busy we are it could be 2 days or more"
Cant afford the time or fuel to make 2 trips to my local Deca...

I think it was worth it for me, but I'm not terribly far away - they changed the cassette (for an overpriced 105) but tightened everything up.

I think it depends how happy you are with the setup of the bike.
If things are not as they should be, this is your chance to get them put right, or at least get the ball in motion.
If you're happy with how it runs and would like to keep it that way, don't bother.*
*EDIT. Just to qualify that statement in the light that Chas might read this and is a Decca mechanic (?). I wasn't impressed at the standard of service at my store at the times I had to go, and feel I had good reasons for this opinion but don't wish to cast aspersions at Decca mechanics in general or other staff who prepare the bikes. I know of another who is excellent in skill and advice, he just didn't happen to work on my bike.

I was told by someone at Reading Decca that if you don't have your free six month service done it invalidates your warranty. Don't know how that would stand up if you did have problems within the warranty period.

Don't know how that would stand up if you did have problems within the warranty period. I've heard that too. However, if stuff hasn't gone seriously wrong in the first 6 months, then it makes me wonder how likely it is to go wrong at all. plus, for some there is very little left of the original bike now.

I rang up wednesbury a fortnight ago to ask this specific question. They told me the free service has no connection to the warranty, perhaps chas or arny could confirm this for us to eliminate any confusion or doubts.

I wouldn't have thought Decathlon could legally do that. All goods come with some kind of warranty by law, even if the store doesn't say so (sales of goods act etc.) Admittedly it's not as simple as "if it goes wrong within 12 months you are 100% entitled to have something done about it" but no store could say your legal rights have been invalidated because you haven't had a check up that you didn't even necessarily know you were entitled to, let alone HAD to have. I wasn't told about the free service when I purchased my bike, the only reason I knew about it was because I joined this forum.

I've never been told of a link between the service and warranty, I'll confirm tomorrow just to be sure
