I'd be more concerned with the reach provided you can actually stand over it, the saddle height is easily adjusted. How tall are you and what size Triban do you ride, are you happy with the size of that? Ride a 57 T5a perfectly fine, 57/L Alur TT is a lot higher due to curvature of the bar, reach etc I can sort out with various stems. Just not sure whether to go down to a M frame. Sounds like the bend in the top tube is causing confusion. Are you able to compare the lengths of the head tube, seat tube etc. between the bikes. I would expect them to be similar. If in doubt go for the smaller size seems to be the generally accepted rule and having just gone down a frame size after a year trying to get comfy on a slightly too big bike I would agree.

I think the L Alur is the same virtual top tube length as the 57cm Triban at 56cm so should be ok for you. You didn't give your height, but I assume you must have a long body/short legs to have this problem, with the Alur not having such a compact frame geometry. Put your kit on (shoes, shorts) and try the standover again, you don't need a lot of clearance on a road bike, it's the fit when you're riding that's most important. If you're not happy as stated above it's easier to make a small bike bigger than a big one smaller, you should be able to get the same riding position with a longer stem on an M with more standover.

Thinking of going to see one in the flesh to see if it could sway me in person. I had lined up one of the Boardmans for next spring but I cannot decide if I'm worth a carbon at my age and wieght. This Alur at this price ticks a lot of my wants list boxes.

I saw one in the flesh at Wednesbury when I took the wife to get her MTB for Christmas.
I would of bought it there and then if it were white lol
Now considering a carbon aero frame

I looked at the alur on Boxing day, but can't decide if it is worth it to upgrade from my triban 500 which I have only had for 6 months / 1200 miles or whether to wait until next year when I've got more miles on a road bike bearing in mind I am a newby at 56 years of age.

Still absolutely astounded by how cheap this is! I need it in my life, but I also need beer/food/lift pass money for my ski trip next month

I had a short spin around a car park on a 57 Alur and it felt massive compared to my 57 T3 but mostly due to the top tube. A lot of bike for Β£600.

I finally got to see one in Coventry last week, I ride a 60 t3 so was surprised to find the medium was right for me. Should have it home by Friday.

Does anyone know the diameter of the seat post or where I can find out? I was raising the saddle but the last time I did this the Allen key chewed up the bolt a bit.
