so, after my slightly negative thread on upgrading to clipless, I thought I'd put something more positive up here...
After stumbling across this site something like 3 months ago, and buying a T5 not long after that (entirely as a result of finding this site btw: I was looking for a road bike, but it was the very existence of this site, and the advice given on it that persuaded my to buy a Triban) i'm absolutely loving having a road bike...
I'd always looked at the road cyclist i saw when out in the car, and wondered why do it? I guess its horses for courses - I mountain biked (still do - or at least will - once by cycling partner is fit again) and loved the thrill, but couldn't see what any one got out of riding on the road - surely it must be a bit.. dull and repetitive?
The chap I mtb with (and climb and dive and a multitude of other sports with interesting ways of hurting ourselves) started road biking a while back - and more as fitness tool, i thought I'd give it a go
But pretty quickly, I was totally hooked - far from being dull and repetitive, its challenging, and fast, and bloody good fun
I'm still probably in the honeymoon stage - every week brings new, and big achievements - new pbs, new distances, new experiences, new top speeds and ore things to spend money on
so, I've gone from 1 shortish ride a week, to consistently getting 2 good rides in. longest distance so far is just over 60 km
whats the next thing I should be trying? Is it better to try to boost my average speeds at my current distances, or continue to push for longer distances.. my ave speed is a little on the slow side... 20km seems to be the best I can manage in my slightly hilly area and although I did actually manage to over take someone else on a road bike last week - I'm normally the one left standing (even my cycling buddy who had major abdo surgery 4 weeks back can still outpace me lol)
