So I had a winter off cycling due to having a fall while commuting and landing all my weight directly on my knee onto hard tarmac, yes, it hurt to the point of not being able to cycle. Luckily in the winter and not at the beginning of summer! Anyway, though as an incentive to get back out on the bike (It's been a good 4 or so months now) I would purchase some SPD-SL pedals and shoes. Fitted them today, thought, best practice before heading out on a small test run, all was going well. "Wow, this is easier than I thought it would be" I said to myself, of course, the cockiness of being so good at it bit my arse as I forgot to unclip, then following to fall directly left! Luckily managed to grab the office chair that was next to me, that was a close one! Other than that, thoroughly impressed by them on the very small route I took them out just to get used to them. Really can tell a difference from the stock pedals that come with my 5a. Looking forward to the summer now What are your funniest clipless fails? That won't be my last I am sure (Hoping it is though!)

I bought my T7 about 5 months ago which comes with welgo look style clipless pedals. I have been using them and struggled to unclip a couple of times. I came to the bottom of a narrow lane with 2 cars coming down the lane, so I stopped, unclipped ok put my right foot down and then just as the cars approached I started to lean to the left for some unknown reason. I still had my left foot clipped in and couldn't unclip my foot in time and down I went. Just had to laugh as did the people in the cars as they passed me. i have finally got fed up of the welgo's and have just bought a pair of Exustar E-PR100P, the difference is like night and day I can unclip easily and reliably every time. Hopefully that will be my last time, but I doubt it.

I was using them, went to grab a fence at the side of the road, missed it and fell to the side.
I was really lucky my face broke the fall because i could have really hurt my body lol

I had a slight problem with the clip on my right shoe, but thought it wasn't a problem as the other clipped and unclipped easily. So, one day, having ridden the MTB, I arrived at the bike sheds at work. I slowed down and unclipped my left foot and started to put it down as I continued braking. Unfortunately, the brakes bit harder than I thought and I stopped dead. Then, in slow motion, I toppled to my right as I frantically and to no avail tried to release my right foot! I smashed my bar end mirror, which was two days old having replaced a previously broken one from...........
...Pulling out from a staggered crossroads. Opposite me, a teenager on a moped on the other side of the road pulled out to his right, without looking and cutting the corner, which meant that I could no longer push off and get to the safety of the other side of the road in time. I stopped quickly. Unfortunately, I toppled to the right where my foot was still clipped in. I fell right in front of the moped. The kid just sat there looking at me! I was dead embarrassed.
I've now fixed the problem and have the tension quite low on them - Probably too low on the left pedal at the moment. Both falls were in my first few weeks of commuting. I got quite upset about it, because I was both embarrassed and quite bruised. I worried that if I couldn't do the simple things right, how was I going to get on when someone else made a mistake! However, I persisted and now feel much more confident on the MTB. I'm also building up my confidence on the T5.
P.S. One of the things I used to do was to wear headphones as I treated every ride as a gym session. I didn't think I could do the commute without them. Shortly after my second 'tumble' I stopped using them as a test. I now feel I don't need them. I've found I enjoy listening to the sound around - Although wind noise is sometimes bloody annoying. Furthermore, I feel much more aware and in tune with my surroundings. Whether they affect my balance or not I dont know. But I won't go back to them.

Early ride in the Worcestershire lanes. Slowing to a stop while catching the eye of a couple of lady horse riders, inevitable slow topple into the hedge. One of them rather sweetly asked "does that happen a lot?"

When I was a young racer (I was 13, at the begin of '80s, more or less) clipless pedals were not yet used. The feet were locked to the pedals by means of a belt. The first time I used it, I arrived at a red cross light and stopped to wait for the green, but unlickely I forgot do release the belt: so I slowly slowly falled toward the right side, unforgettable! :-) img844.imageshack.us/img844/4185/06082011287.jpg

I only failed to unclip once, it was on the first time out.
I had unclipped actually, I just lost balance and went over on the still clipped (righthand) side. Sadly, this was at the top of a grass bank and lying on this bank were two other bikes which i somersaulted over still fastened to the bike.
Luckily it was dark and there was no-one around to it, but i sometimes wonder if it's on a cctv tape somewhere, as the location was a sports centre by an outside five-a-side pitch.
I had a couple of bruises, but didn't kill any bikes.
