Ive recently bought an edge 200 and love seeing the speed that im doing as this keeps my legs pumping, and also ive had 1 go with the course planner and this will be great when i go out of my normal area.
When Ive been using the Garmin ive also had my phone running Strava. From a post ride point of view Im looking at the 2 sets of data and i seem to be getting more out of Strava still.
What do you guys find best? I love the Strava segments so cant see why i'd ever ditch these and just use Garmin connects data. Am i missing something?

I'm becoming ever more annoyed with Strava. It isn't very accurate at all, especially if using your phone to track.
There is a massive update to Garmin Connect coming soon which is apparently going to include Garmin segments. I think I'll be switching to that when it comes and hopefully people won't be making pointless 200 yard segments.

Use Strava far more, often forget to upload data to Garmin Connect but always upload to Strava

I usually upload to both but only really look at Strava.
For the last week or so, the Garmin Connect site has been accepting the upload but then saying the site is undergoing maintenance when I go to look at the detail. Anyone else had a problem ?

Garmin is often clunky, my rides upload automatically when plugged to PC with the new software (Garmin Express) but I don't visit it often except to plot a long route. I usually go straight to Strava and press upload but similarly, I also take Strava with a pinch of salt (most of the time); if I went for full heart and cadence etc. then I'd look at Garmin more but I won't be, as I keep my exercise regimes simple - besides, you don't need to know what's happening every second when your three year plan is to ride up Ventoux and Alpe d'Huez !

I've only used the garmin Connect twice, and that was over a year ago. I didn't even remember that I had an accout there, but after a bit of searching I found it and the couple of rides I uploaded in March 2013.
I like the way the data is displayed on there, well some of it. The bits I do like are the clear 'charts', the ones on Strava are so wishy-washy that i can hardly see them on my monitor at home, the brightness of it just hides the pastel colours Strava uses.
What is missing on the garmin map/chart interface is the moving dot. On strava you get a moving cursor line on the charts, and this is echoed by a moving dot on the map. If there's a way of getting this to happen on Garmin, I'd like to know.

I use both Garmin Connect and Strava. Upload from phone then when I get to a computer that ride is exported to Strava. I like looking at both, with Strava its the segments only. I also view veloviewer too.

Express is just new software on the PC that automatically deals with uploads.

I upload from my Garmin 200 to both Strava and Garmin Connect. I use both equally but for different things.
I find it easier to compare multiple recordings of the same activity with Garmin Connect and I personally like the way the data is displayed.
I do like the segments and trophies on Strava but could see me getting bored of them after a while. I also find segments quite glitchy. For example I've ridden one segment on my route to work 4 times now and I've only registered one time (when using phone to track my ride instead of Garmin). When I looked at the segment in detail this morning it takes a path that is impossible to follow, i.e. it deviates from the cycle path. Like ohoward I'd probably switch to Garmin Segments if they become available
I find plotting routes easier on Garmin Connect than on Strava. Mainly because Strava has no manual over ride function and always wants to follow roads

I upload to various different places. Garmin Connect first as it's easiest. Then export the GPX to upload to Strava as Strava doesn't behave when I try to upload directly from the Garmin. Also upload every ride to Runtastic. That's mostly habit. I've been using Runtastic since I started my weight loss over 18 months ago, I've logged ever bit of exercise I've done so just carry on with it. It's the only one with all the stats as far as time, distance, calories burned from the start I usually look at Strava for ride stats though, if only because of the segments.

So on the commute home I decided to record the ride on both the garmin 200 and Strava mobile. Note: Strava mobile had not picked up a satellite when I started but looking at the map it picked up a signal < 1minute into the ride. Comparing the segments none of them are the same which was a surprise. Ok they are only a few seconds out (ranging from 2 to 8 seconds) but I'd have expected, maybe naively, that 2 devices sitting <1meter apart would record the same data.
I'll be sticking with the Garmin as this is the data source I'm looking at during the ride, even thought uploading is a bit more of a faff.

Makes you wonder about how meaningful any of the data on strava really is.

Hang on there a wee second ! GPS works on massive radius dims and geometry, taken from miles above the planet, computer chips and big receivers on earth are working with other systems that are drawing big circles to try and fix your position. The fix co-ords are an interpolation of data from inside and outside the atmosphere; on the one hand a 'Moonraker' style satellite is out there blipping away ... and on the other ... some sad git on a bike has a 2 inch square blipper on the planet surface, the readings are likely taken from a couple of satellites or more ... it's amazing it works at the accuracy and tolerances it does IMHO .
