I went last night. I saw a couple of Red 3s, one I had a word with, he said he'd heard of us, but hadn't looked us up yet.
And I had a brief hello with the other one. Also saw a white and a black triban/btwin, but I'm not sufficiently up with it to know what they are.
I took my next door neighbour with me, he's does some long rides (the way of the roses a few weeks back) but that was the last time he rode the bike. I managed 5 laps.
It was very windy there last night, and it made the fastest bit of the track ( Craner curves) very slow. However, it also made the straight very easy and quick. Sadly this was too quick for some, and we saw the aftermath of a very nasty crash; bikes everywhere and a man on the floor being tended to by a paramedic.
That was at the finish of the evening, and in the car park we heard what had happened. A chap told us that up in front he "saw three guys who were going very fast, heads down, and they just went straight into the back of two lasses who were just riding along minding their own business........snapped the bike in two".
I assumed the broken bike was one of the three, not one of the ladies', they were obviously quite shaken up by the incident too. As we left the park, an ambulance was on the way in under blues. I hope everyone was ok and I also hope that it doesn't mean the end of the events.

Saw the aftermath of the accident, didnt look good although nearly got ran over myself by the paramedic on the old hairpin. Saw a few red 3's and a couple of black 5's. Was stupidly windy in places and nearly caught me out a few times with side winds coming off the the start/finish straight. Didnt like the way the hill kept getting steeper every lap!!!

Real shame, that was the first one I'd been to and really enjoyed it. On the one hand it was great to see such a wide variety of cyclists enjoying it together but there were still a lot of families (and slower adults) riding in the later session with (much) faster riders passing close on both sides - the dangers were very apparent. Even a simple rule like 'slower riders keep left' would have made a difference, but I suspect giving guidance like that would make the organisers more responsible. Shame it couldn't continue with alternate 'family fun' and 'race' evenings

My son went to this week's, I couldn't get. Apparently there was a lot of annoyed people who had turned up at the start only to be told that they couldn't go on the track yet because it was "families only" until 6:45. They'd obviously not read the latest on the web page. I can imagine that they weren't too polite about it. I wonder if this was also a factor?

That's a bit of a joke as I got there at 7 to find plenty of families riding round until the finish making a fast lap quite hazardous with so many people at such a wide range of speeds.

I was looking to make the 1 hour drive to take part in this later in the summer. It seems to have been a victim of its' own success, reading the above.

That's a bit of a joke as I got there at 7 to find plenty of families riding round until the finish making a fast lap quite hazardous with so many people at such a wide range of speeds. From reading the Donington park facebook page I get the impression that there was some arguments at the gate about this. It seems that people turned up expecting to ride (having not seen the announcement) and were told that they couldn't until a certain time. At this point the organisers gave in and let them all on so it became a free for all. I'm guessing that it was partly these problems i.e. the arguments, that have caused the cancellation of future events. I wouldn't 'volunteer' to marshal if it meant being shouted at.

It was certainly a free for all, from handing in my disclaimer I was waved through to the track with no instruction or advice at all, a simple 'keep left, overtake on the right' would have improved matters and I didn't notice any marshalls at all.
