Hello people, here I am trying to find out what size I should go for if I decide to try this out... I am 152cm and my leg is 70cm, that would be 27" and a bit. (And no, I'm not going to grow, I stopped about 35 years ago... ) My instinct is to go for the smaller available, but you probably know more than me. Help?

Hi @felina my inside leg is 30"and I'm on a 54 so I would probably go with a 51. But if possible try and get on one just to make sure.

Also, it's not all about the inside leg. Upper body length counts considerably for the 'reach' aspect. I agree it would be best to try various sizes, if you can.

Thanks people! At least now I know what range to try.
Can I add a question? The Decathlon site says "outings should be be up to 45 minutes" which perplexes me a bit. I am thinking of a road bike because I signed up for a sportive and it looks like nobody else is riding hybrids (as well as, well, I have been bitten by the bug). What happens on longer rides? Bike falls apart? Your pelvis comes apart? You sit by the side of the road and cry?

Yes, to be honest I might well get off and push before the 55 miles are over. :-)

Well the only thing that will stop you is your backside when it starts hurting so
NO1 get good padded shorts or tights you will enjoy 55 miles much more with than without!
Ps
Welcome along and hope you find a bike

If you're on the cusp of 51/54, you might want to bear in mind that the 51 has 650 wheels. That would impact on any future upgrade options.

So.... I've got no idea what my inside leg is.. but I am about 5foot 4 and got a 48 frame! On the charts I was coming up as 51 but the 48 was just more comfortable (I didn't believe I would notice the difference but was proved wrong) - due to the "reach" aspect like stevo said. So I second trying them all out if you can Good luck!

Ps Welcome along and hope you find a bike Oh, I have a good collection of them. I used to cycle everywhere in a "bicyle is a means of transport" way, but when I moved to London I stopped for several years because the traffic scared me. When I started again, I found out that the kind of bicycle available was, well, different, and that my rear has become larger and squishier, and although my commute is only less than 10km I quickly found out that padded seats are your friend. Also I am a compulsive buyer of cycle gear. In fact, if I had bought less of socks, bibs, jerseys, and other bits and bobs including three different sets of increasingly expensive rear lights all now dead except for the last, I would be able to decide to buy the Triban with a much greater peace of mind. As it is, my conscience aka Laura from work told me that I have a very nice hybrid already and she'll only let me buy a road bike if I do at least five events this summer.

I saw that, and it would prefer 700, as my current bike has that and hey, I'm getting a new bike to be quicker, how doses that work out? But I doubt I can use a 54. Although back in my college days when the deciding features of a bike were "how much it costs" and "how many months can I hang on to it before it gets nicked" I would ride anything with no real problems.

This is the first year I'm doing events so started with a 50 and working up. Have London to Brighton in June and plan to get some in over the summer holiday. And if I can cycle the coast a bit down Devon way Hope Laura your conscience is doing these events with you ?

She has mentioned the Dulwich Dynamo in ecstatic terms. I have run away and hid. (Mind you, as we work the night shift, we have an advantage).
BTW, my 48 Triban 3 just came home with me. :-)

SHINY!!!!! And now almost comfortable, after playing around with the fit. I am a bit worried about the reach of my hands though. I can work the shifters OR I can work the brakes, but not both. I wonder if it's an issue that can be remedied with adjusting the handlebar, or if I need to take some hard look at new shifters.
