1 flashing, 1 constant. I have Smart lunar R2 and Cateye TL-LD1100. Best lights imo. No one can miss me. Well I hope. They are bright, but I have found this ensures people pass at a safe distance for sure. Don't take any chances with visibility. But be very careful with very bright front lights. For my commute I have the TL-LD1100 on my seatpost, have one row flashing and one row on constant, extremely bright and probably the best light for side visibility. Wife has the Smart Lunar R2 which is brighter but can't match the side visibility of the Cateye. I use a Polaris RBS backpack cover with a Guardian Expedition light with a claimed visibility of 3 miles and finally a knog frog style light flashing at rear of my helmet. Have had no close calls with traffic giving a real wide berth.

Hey I drove past a Lunar R2 tonight. The visibility of it is EXTREMELY poor from anywhere but directly behind it. I've got one Might try that Exposure Flare.

For my night time commute I have: - 1 x Solar Lunar R2 - 2 x Time to Run High Visibility Clip On Band With flashing LED Strip - They hang off my Lomo Hi Vis waterproof backpack that has Scotchlite markings - That covers part of my hi viz waterproof commuters jacket - That compliments my Altura Night Vision tights - My feet have Tenn shoe covers with hi viz Scotchlite strips - I have Scotchlite reflecta-clips on the spokes of my wheels - 2 x Cree XML T6s on the front The side visibility isn't brilliant on the R2, but you aint gonna miss me from any angle!

Hey dudes, here's my first post, wahoo! I am pretty passionate about this here subject.... cos I love my back light soooooooo much!! It's indestructible, super easy to get on and off, PROPERLY waterproof and USB-rechargable... and super blooming bright from multiple directions. But it's like £25. It's the Knog Blinder www.wiggle.co.uk/knog-blinder-4-standard-led-rear-light/

The standard ones are good but the rear Road version is even better than the standard, although about £10 more. I've not tried the front Blinder Road, but if it's as good as the back.....

I have a a Moon Comet, a Blackburn Mars 4.0 & a Cateye TD-LD600 as my rear lights. The moon comet is a recent purchase and was to go on my bag, but I'm that impressed with it it's going to go on the bike instead with the blackburn mars on the bag! I've been considering the exposure flare, but tbh I'm not sure if four lights would be overkill. The Moon is like the knog in that it's a rechargable usb, viewable from 90 degrees to the side and can be mounted on the saddle as well as the seatpost/stays. I picked it up for £17.98 thanks to Wiggle price matching so may be another thing to consider. I looked at the reviews on bike radar and it was the cheapest that made the top 4 rear lights on test for 2013: www.bikeradar.com/gear/article/best-bike-lights-for-road-cycling-32289/3rd was a more expensive version of the Knog, the Knog Blinder Road R, so I'm guessing the Moon Comet places between the one listed above & the Road R. The Road R is about £5 more than the ordinary blinder here: www.tredz.co.uk/.Knog-Blinder-Road-USB-Rechargeable-Rear-Lights_66587.htm Wiggle should price match too.

Since we are all budget conscious (well be bought Tribans didn't we?) then it might be worth pointing out that the Lunar R2 is only £9.99 at Amazon. The other light I thought about was the Metroflash Dangerzone which is also £9.99 at Amazon. Both reduced from around £25.

Maybe I'm a bit of an oddity, but from my year and a bit's experience in cycling I would say I'm not budget conscious per se, I'm more value conscious. Some of my kit nowadays may be much more expensive than the Aldi specials I started with, but I always think of the cost per use & longevity!
