Great to see so many other cyclist making the most of the weather today and battling the strong winds. I saw many great looking bikes with riders wearing flash official team kit - albeit too many without helmets.
It's still free choice and I respect that, no one wants to be dictated to and I don't intend this post to become a debate into compulsory safety gear however, when a, "sorry I didn't see you mate!" hits you and drags you up the road 30 yards and you've only your dandruff for protection, it doesn't send out the right safety message to other road users.
Having worn full-face lids as a biker for many years, I appreciate that a cycle helmet isn't going to give a lot of protection to your noggin coming off at 40+, but it's better than nothing when you consider that most bike fatalities are down to head injury.
Sadly, if we don't take our own safety seriously, then why should we expect motorist to?

Show us your Strava !? Perhaps stick a link to explain road set out and context, or is this just another pointless thread? I'd say go with your convictions and put your ride up, explain / demonstrate where the issues were, get specific and scientific about it? I am so bored with the single-minded numbness of the inability to get to the core of this one that it's getting too tedious for my interest, just another internet based overly long no ended conundrum debate! That's IMHO (In My Humble Opinion) of course.

I feel wearing a helmet is now part and parcel of cycling. Sure, when I was a kid I never wore one. Come to think of it, neither did anyone else, including the pros. Nowadays however, helmets are widespread and readily available cheaply. When I first bought my T3 I (and Mrs Red) made sure I bought a helmet too. Felt a bit of a dork on my first outing but that was due to having never worn one before. Like Needles I wore a full face during my motor bike days but felt a bit conscious of looking a bit daft on the T3. I needn't have worried. Almost every cyclist I see out on the road wears a helmet, be it road cyclists, mtb'ers and commuters. They're as common as muck now. I once wrote a post about setting off to work and forgetting to put the lid on. It didn't feel right and once I twigged I'd forgotten to put it on I immediately turned round, went home and lidded up.

@needles, I can't see anything in your post to disagree with. Nor can i see what your riding ability has to do with your point of view.

Rad, have you actually read my post?
"Show us your Strava" - I'm not on Strava, what has Stava got to do with the issue of wearing a lid?
"Perhaps stick a link to explain road set out and context, or is this just another pointless thread?" - What road set out/context? Sorry you consider a thread addressing safety to be pointless!
"I'd say go with your convictions and put your ride up, explain / demonstrate where the issues were, get specific and scientific about it?" - What does it matter where I ride, the only issue I had was seeing fellow cyclist riding in heavy traffic without helmets!
"I am so bored with the single-minded numbness of the inability to get to the core of this one that it's getting too tedious for my interest, just another internet based overly long no ended conundrum debate!" - I'm sorry you find riders contributing to your forum so boring!

I'll make a simple statement then for argument's sake.
Are we asking someone to wear a helmet when all they do is ride at 8 kmh on a GB road, or is this pandering to car culture?

I'd have thought as a moderator to a cycling forum, promoting road safety would be a priority.
