Hi guys I've just clocked my first 1000 miles since getting into cycling last October. As an insulin dependent diabetic with severe mental health issues my doctor implored me to take more exercise, not an easy thing todo when you are clinically depressed. I'd been off work for 6 months and had applied to go part time. I sold my beloved motorbike, bought a Boardman a Hybrid and started with 6 mile rides. Since then I've swapped the hybrid for a T7 and I'm riding about 100 miles a week.
I'd set myself various challenges which I'd hoped to achieve within a year but have managed to tick them all off in under 5 months. I've booked a place on the Dougie Mac 50 mile sportive in May which I'm training for with a friend who has also taken up cycling recently. The forums are full of similar testimonials but having battled mental health for over 30 years, cycling is the first 'medication' that has worked for me! Here's to the next thousand Needles

Excellent achievement @needles big up yourself!!!
1000 miles is no mean feat and you should be justifiably proud of the landmark distance. Keep pedalling and racking up the miles as it just goes to show that cycling is one hell of a good form of medicine.

Fabulous!!! My 10 year old is type 1 and coeliac. It's always great to be able to show her stuff of other people doing the 'normal' things and how you don't have to be a victim.
Here's to the first 10,000!!!!
