I recently joined British Cycling (local club had leaflets given with 50% discount) - you know me, only buy something if it's a bargain! Once a member you can update your online profile, and add your bike. You do however have to choose your brand of bike from the drop down list. B'Twin is not listed!!! Outrage!!! I think they need to know about the brand, TOC and the great work we do getting people into cycling...

I didn't realise that. I have been a member for about 18 months. I originally signed up because they were offering a good deal on some LED lights. I can't say I have had much value from it but you do get discounts from retailers like Wiggle and Halfords.

I've joined mainly for the insurance cover you get, riding regular with a group at the weekend with a club, you never know what can happen!

Btwin haven't really hit the heights in the uk subconscious yet, WE know they are good but your average mr 'I buy as spesh allez' types will still look on them as supermarket bikes and you can see that reflected in comments on lesser forums like cc and bike radar It will change of course but it takes time for it to filter its way through Good on ya Ian, give bc a kickstart, btwin is the mass production bike benchmark imo

At what point should Btwin or whoever start paying you lot, or showing a bit of recognition, for the work you do promoting their bikes, brand etc.
A TOC discount at Decathlon, on cycling stuff, would be good too.
That is all ha.
I remember buying the T3 straight after visiting this forum. Without seeing this forum I'd of def bought that Carrera TDF from Halfords. I aint' going to of been the only one. Just saying.

I've pointed out the good work we do to British Cycling as most of our members are buying their first bike and getting into cycling. Some people visit the forum before deciding on a which bike is right and we guild them.
I've said we are a very helpful lot, passionate about cycling. Hopefully TOC can get a few benefits going forward.

This was me too. A mate of mine pointed me in the direction of the Carrera. Even though I still can't convince my wife that Β£300 is pitance for such a bike, the VfM is quite ridiculous. Due to add various Shimano Sora/105 bits and (hopefully) a set of Shimano 501s (for my birthday) and have some Shimano SPD pedals ready to go on when I (hopefully) get my shoes for my Birthday... Grand total of bike and upgrades in the region of Β£450. Compare that to any bike with the same (or similar) spec from any cycle shop and you're looking at Β£600+. The only thing I won't have, which I would love is "proper" shifters. Which will be an upgrade somewhere down the line when I've put some proper miles in the bike (Or I'll just upgrade the whole groupset a la Rad and BA!) I quite like the fact that the quality of B'Twin products is our little secret! Makes for feeling smug!

It's no secret any more I don't think.
I don't expect any horse trade payback for liking a company with a refreshing approach, it works because the price is right and it taps into a world of new possibilities for appealing to the smart buyer; everything bike related these days seems to be about hyped up marketing and minuscule extra performance edges for Β£1000s that mainly appeal to the prima-donna more than the realist, when all most of us need to do is just get out and ride - until the engine and ECU are totally sorted, then little point in going mad, trying to get it sorted is challenge enough in itself, trying to do this and buy extra flash expensive trinkety bikes is usually only appealing to the ego of a chosen few and not really spreading the net for the sport.
I realise I'm just off to swan about mainland Europe with B'Twin but that's still my stance on it.
I also think that British Cycling needs to balance the boom possibilities with cost effectiveness - the Velodrome I've been using is not expensive - but equally, it's not cheap and the stories of the corporate world bunging up the diary at the more expensive London one are in stark contrast to the ethos that made GB good at cycling, via grass roots grittyness and using the one in Manchester as a venue for those serious about it.

1. I know my limits and this guy on a bike was pootling - we were on the easy bit home, he was on a pedestrian priority cycle path ; also when you ride with an ex GB Triathlete, who considers himself out of shape and not the greatest bike rider anyway, you realise there's levels and more levels. 2. Sorry - you're new, there's a fair few in the queue before you.
