Hi guys
So I've got my T7 and all's well with the world, however...
the freehub isn't brilliant as when coasting at speed, the chain sags and has come off on a couple of occasions. I've spoken to Decca and the top man there has admitted the stock wheels aren't up to the same spec as the rest of the bike, with particular issues with the freehub.
He advises to upgrade the wheels. What do you think and what should I go for?

Hi @needles is your chain sagging on the top or the bottom. If it's the top then sounds like a stiff free hub if it's the bottom probably rear mech out of adjustment. If your bike is fairly new then decca should replace free of charge, or maybe give you a discount on a new set for your troubles.

Hi, budget about 150 would favour reliability over weight and speed.

If reliability is of concern over weight and speed you might want to look into some handbuilt wheeels. Can get them built up with more spokes so should be stronger and more durable. Also easier to get fixed if something goes wrong.

2nd that (and I bought some hand builds) but lots of decent enough wheels at that price - mavic askims and fulcrum 5s most popular. Neither will let you down but lit will depend in your weight as well. If lighter then less spokes not much of an issue.

Just had to go count the spokes from pictures of both versions. Hadn't noticed there were less spokes. I've only ridden mine around 250 miles but I've hit potholes and very rough roads at speed and they're still as true as when they arrived. I weigh around 98KG too. Better than the stock wheels, the rear would need truing once a week usually. No idea if they'll still be true by 1,000 miles but it's looking good so far.

Harley when you sprint and rock the bike side to side do they flex at all?
My Shim R501 seem to that's why I want to replace them.

The other day when sprinting up a hill I could hear squeaking as the bike rocked, but it could have been the mudguard. I've removed the mudguard and didn't hear anything on my last ride. About to head out so will put in some efforts up the hills and see if I can notice any wheel flex.

Quite windy today so a bit difficult to hear but put it some strong sprints on the hills and couldn't hear or feel the wheels flex or rub the brakes at all. Adjusted the brakes before I left so they were quite close to the rims. Think Fulcrum 5's are straight pull which makes them much stiffer. Having a bend in the spoke where it sits in the hub introduces weaknesses allowing the wheel to flex.

I have the 2014 fulcrum 5's totally excellent, light,responsive wheels.....I have some shimano RS80's on my other bike and was hard pushed to tell much difference, they are lighter than the 2013 fulcrum 5's mainly in the rim where it matters most.......they are hovering around the £200 mark, but it's the best £200 you'll ever spend to give a big increase to you and your bike's performance

Thanks Harley. I'll be buying them as soon as some discount codes come out for a decent shop. Hoping for £150-60. Still twice the price of the R501s though!
