I agree with spaceflight, unless your body is 'freakishly' long, no one under 6 foot should really be looking at a 60!

Arny,
I already have a t7 but just wonder what you'd recommend size wise.
I'm 175cm tall, with an inside leg of 84cm - so proportionately very long legs, or so I'm told! Cheers.
(PS I am seriously considering buying a Facet 5 in the not-so-near future so a size recommendation for that as well would be great).

Hi Arny,
I'm 5'10" (70 inches) and inside leg of 32 inches.
Hopefully will be doing quite a bit of riding on it, but budget is only £500 or so. This points to me at the Triban 5 - Then buy accessories as I go along..

I went twice to Decathlon before purchasing my Triban. I'm 5'11' and tried both the 57 and the 60 and even though they had the 57 in my preferred option of the old Red 3, it wasn't as comfortable to me as the 60 5a.

I'm 6'2, with a 32" inside leg and happily on a 57. I did try the 60 in store by test riding & it felt too big. Funnily enough I did the fit calculator on competitive cyclist (and shared it on here about a month ago), which backed up my frame choice, although it said I was on too short a stem so I've swapped that and found it even better. I'd recommend to everyone interested that, as height and inside leg measurements are but one aspect of the fit, that they should attempt to do the fit calculator as despite the valiant efforts of Dan, we're all different shapes/sizes. www.competitivecyclist.com/fit-calculator/I think when I do have the money to put towards one, I'll invest in a proper RETUL bike fitting. Although that will probably be when I get a new bike.

Hello! Thinking about buying a triban, I can stretch to a Triban 5a but I'm not sure whether it is worth £130 over the Red Triban 3? Also, I am 5ft 11 with inside leg of 33" so everything I've read seems to suggest a 57cm frame, would you agree with this. With stocks seeminly running low for both bikes, would you recommend getting one ASAP or wait, since I'm about to go out of the country until the end of August. It is likely there will be new stock then? Lots of questions but hopefully someone will be kind enough to give their opinion . James

I've got a 60. I'm 5'11. I was concerned that Id chosen the wrong size. I personally haven't experienced any issues with over reaching or back problems. I did change the stem for a 90mm. More for the looks than anything else. I've done a few long trek on it. Comfortable!!!!

I'm 178cm (5'10.5). Trouser length is 32cm. I'm currently debating between getting the 5a or the 3a (I've been informed that there is next to no chance getting the 3, which would have been my first choice). I'm a student and am wondering if it is worth spending the extra £130 to get the 5 over the 3? My budget is making me lean more towards the 3 but I could at a push possibly get the 5. This will be my first road bike, will mainly be used for fitness and commuting (I imagine my top cycle will be 40-60 mile unless I follow through with my plan to do the London-Paris cycle next year). I only own some bike lights so will need to purchase accessories etc. Thanks for the advice!

I don't know if you've already done this but i'll still fill in the gaps for you. I'd recommend a 51 due to you being 5'2. Reason is the 650 wheel will help reduce the frame size alot for easier acess over th frame aswell as having a fairly upright position on the handlebars. The 54 would ave been too large for not only the saddle, the cross tube and the handlebar reach resuting in severe discomfort in the lower back, neck and wrists. regarding bike with you being 350. I'd push that little extra months savings and go for the T5a. Its the old T3 but with a better groupset. Still carbon forks too so its no more than what you can ask for. only thing is it is 429. but if your lucky to grab your hands a on a T3 Red, by all means go for it. Only thing making me go towards the t5a more than the white and red is that fitness and 15 mile bike journey aswell as having all the gear from previous riding.

Hi, straight away, your a similar height to me so I'd recommend definitely the 57cm. 5a is better on the groupset and lightness, the 3a is better on the comfort. with you planning on a much longer distance and i ride with carbon seat stays, your going to need all the lightness you can possibly get for any hill points and a groupset that feels smoother and more reliable when changing gears. if you are struggling for budget, go for the triban 3 to start you off and if needs be you can effectively buy some nice carbon forks at a later date and wheels to boots. that there will save a good 1-1.5kg out the bike. (i'm sure everyone will agree our wheels aren't the best around. Mavics or Shimano RS10's are your best option.)

Okay, so to start off, your height is only a cm higher than myself and i ride a 57cm. So that should pretty much set things straight on there and with your leg length, you'll be able to have the saddle high giving yourself a more angled position when riding. bike wise - now, you didnt mention that your budget is or isnot within your bike budget so im taking it as it isn't. I'd say go for the Triban 5, and with that purchase yourself, the keo classics and the Shimano ro88 shoes. at that point, quality shoes with quality pedals. if you dont want keo, go for shimano 105. wider pedal layout to spread the pressure applied through the feet. (i've put your pedals under the price of the bike making it 479.99) now wit the remainder of the accessories, i'd advise just keep to the btwin jersey 5 kit as that will be suitable enough for yourself. you can shop about on places like CRC.com, merlin cycles, wiggle, etc... and probably find more comfortable clothing at cheaper price. glasses, doesn't matter on the brand but aslong as there polarised and a bit of quality behind them. gloves, keep fingerless. Just a quick note, if you do want the quality in comfort, bibshorts 7, tops 5. wouldn't go any higher unless you save some more cash to buy. Hope this helps

Hi, great post - thanks. 1 last question:
If I go for the 54 is it not easy to make it bigger / longer just by raising seat post or shortening stem?
It's not easy for me to get to a store to try the sizes (I know I really should make the effort though).
Thanks again.
