Last year I used to just lightly tape gels onto the top tube with masking tape. Just enough to hold it there. Easy to just tear off as you need them. Good idea. I have been looking at the energy bags like this: www.evanscycles.com/products/deuter/energy-bag-ec032278hopefully i'll be able to start getting out with fingerless gloves on soon

Hi there I would apreciate your help here, my eight is 188cm and my inside leg lenght is about 88cm with no shoes on. Should i go for the 63 or the 60 suits me? I' afraid the 63 turns to be too big. Is there any diference in the crank sizes between this two frames? Here in Portugal they still have some red bikes in some stores, mostly old stock, as they started to sell the white ones. Thank you in advance.

Hey Im just a smudge under 6' tall and inside leg is 31" I have the 60 frame and it does feel a little big. Having a bit of trouble getting the seat height right and it feels a bit of a stretch to the bars. I have flipper the stem over and brought the seat a bit more forward. When I ride over about 10 miles I suffer from tingling/numb hands. Mostly with hands on the hoods. Wierdly enough I also get numb feet. I did wonder if the frame was too big and I should have gone for the 57. I bought mail order and think I ordered the wrong size. Any suggestions? With you being just shy of 6ft. It is difficult to say your either 57 or 60 but with you having an inside leg of 31', my personal opinion would have been try a 57 with high saddle. With handlebar reach, if your used to a MTB, the each will feel slightly more further out but should still remain comfortable but unusual, if its unusual and uncomfortable, then you are overreaching. Can i ask, is your saddle near/on its lowest point and how long you had the bike for? My advise would be if your happy with frame size and saddle position and only unhappy with reach, try a much smaller stem, like a 80-90mm as you might have a 110mm. If still uncomfortable, take it all back to your nearest store and show them what the issue is. Another tip to try is by flipping the neck stem upside down so the -6degree angle is now a +6degree angle. This should raise your positioning and make it feel closer. Do this before purchasing a new stem

I just bought a Triban 5a. Had a tiny little ride today and not set up the seat properly yet but worrying now it may not be the right size. It's a 57 and I'm 6'2ish and a 34ish leg. The store didn't have a 60 5a in to try, but I probably should have tried a 60 T3 or T5 instead. The thing is it's my first road bike, so I'm not sure exactly what "comfortable" should feel like. According to the French Decathlon size guide here: www.decathlon.fr/ecfr/m/zip/45418_1_dir/www/conseils-velo-choisir-velo-04-comment-bien-choisir-son-velo-de-route.html#conseil-4I should be okay leg length for a 57 but am a bit tall for it. It may not matter that much as I'm probably not going to be going for that many long rides. P.S. Thanks for setting up this form, it's very helpful and was a big factor in me choosing a Triban. Okay, before i go further, what store is this exactly?...

The reason i was asking that is, I'd be very surprise if our store did it and if it was, i may have a suspicious idea on who it could be... Matter of the fact is (IMHO)... I wouldn't have even dreamt of putting you on a 57. Straight away. 6ft2, im thinking easily 60, 63 if they come available in the 5a or old 3. Now, the fact that your a 34' leg is even more shocking that they didn't tell you to wait for the 60 frame at least. Its 1 thing having a smaller frame like the 60 compared to the 63, as I'm all for possible lengthen stem and a higher and more adjustable saddle. But the 57cm frame is shocking. That was someone who was a beginner in store, or a complete retard just going for sales. Get down your store, get sized up again and make sure they do it right. (For your own personal knowledge, test them on leg length and the neck stem test, if they dont know this test, i would get someone else. The neck stem test is to be on the drop bars, applying the brakes as this is your natural position, hold that position whilst on the saddle and feet on the floor, look at the joint of the neck stem to the handlebars and work off your side vision (peripheral vision) to see if you can see the skewers. If you cannot see the skewers, you are at ideal body length and have the correct neck stem, if you can se the stem but with an overlap off the handlebars, id advise going that next size dependant on where you can see the skewer. If theres a gap from handlebar to skewer. Change bike size). Hope it helps Dan Arny

In defence of the store, I went in thinking I needed a 57, as I had read somewhere someone about 6ft having a 57. So I asked to try a 57, rode it around the store and it seemed okay (to my inexperienced brain). They've also been excellent about taking the bike back with a full refund and have ordered me a 60, which I think is the biggest 5a you can get.

Yeah, you'd have needed a 57 on the facets not the triban as the tribans are compact frames.

Thank you in advance. Carlos Hi carlos, regarding the cranks, with it being the 60 and 63 cm frames, the crank am length is the same. Same with a 57. The only time they start to go smaller is on a 54, 51 and 48. As they decrease in size to a 172.5 and 170. The 57+ are all 175mm Sizing wise, i can see why they'd give you the 63 down to your leg length being a 34" however being only 6"1... I would have placed you on high saddle 60 due to shorter body. 63 would be fine with possible shortening of stem and flipping stem so it is on a +6degree raise. But definitely try the 60 cm frame and perform some of the tests I've advised in the forums. Thanx Dan Arny

Thank you so much. I'm thinking of buying a red one in second hand for 3/4 of the price, the owner bought it this year! It is as new. Just for curiosity the 60 and 63 are the lenghts of the top or the saddle tube (in the frame)? Can you provide me lenghts of both tubes on both frame sizes? If it isn't asking too much. Thank you once again.

Looking at getting a T5/T5A. Conveniently living half way between Sheffield and Edinburgh, means mail order is the most cost effective way to buy. So I need to get the size right. I was thinking 57 or 60
I am 5'10" with 32" inside leg. Bike will be used for commuting and occasional longer weekend rides. Budget for the 5 is ideal for the spec I have most of the gear I need already, but will be upgrading to clipless pedals and shoes once I get used to riding it - currently on a MTB
Any thoughts?
Cheers

I tried both the other night and im going for a 54 as the virtual top tub length is almost identical to my "sunday best" bike, and felt the best when i had a ride round the shop. I would say the 60 would be too big

Might go for the 57. Only reason I thought possibly the 60 was, I'd been recommended a 56 on another bike, I then read that the 5 was a compact frame so thought I might need to go up a size Oh, and, any reason why there's a Β£70 difference between black and white, is it a "fashion" thing or something?
Cheers

Cheers The 5 (white) is last years model and essentially has the same frame as the T7a but with a similar group to the T5a, but the 2012 version. The T5a is the same frame as the red T3 but with a better groupset.

Cheers With you being 5'10 definitely the 57, ad with you being 32' inside leg. the saddle on a 54 would be miles to small and to go 60, you'd need the saddle near lowest point and a shorter stem. you can ride the bigger frame but i'd advise you going to 57 as the frames are compact. I'm a similar height but shorter leg and iv'e got a fairly reasonable height on my saddle so you'll probably be having yours on the numbers located on the seat post. possibly in between the 0 and 2.
