i couldn't se y not as long as you clean it up good and proper but heres the thing... instead of going for the fit 5. Y not pay a lil extra, and get it converted, and use the triban 5 frame with flat bars. that way, if you ever wanted to go back to a racer, You'll always have the parts there and if someone needs racing parts, you could always sell them on and make a lil bit of cash on the way spaceflight: with you being under 6ft you are ideal for the 57. I'm only 5'9-5'10 and im riding a 57 and i'm slowly gunna need a longer neck stem but apart from that its ideal. and im a 30' leg. So with oyu being a 31, having that higher saddle will be more beneficial for yourself.

Arny, can I take my T5a back & exchange it for a fit5? it's still as new & under 2 weeks old. Hi chum, regarding my last message above, this may help you understand a little beta on if you wanted to swap to flat bar and as i stated in the last message, keep the racing bars as they'll provide good money if needed to be sold or easy replacement as you have the best of both options available. here's a little image i did off CRC for how much it would cost to purchase a flat bar set. AND if you do this very soon, I've got a CRC Β£10 money voucher if you'd like it. Just thought this would help... Dan (Arny) Attachment Deleted

I'm going to give it another couple of goes. Had a disastrous ride the other day which prompted my thoughts on a flat bar bike. I didn't prepare enough, went too far too soon, had numb fingers & feet from the cold & had to limp back on the granny ring for the last 7/8 miles of 33!! Just got so used to the MTB which has riser bars on that leaning more forward AND lower feels a bit weird, even trying to drink from the bottle is different!! Is this normal? Anyone else gone from MTB to road & had the same?

I do a bit of both, i feel much more at home (comfort & gear wise) on both of my MTB's each has different gearing. I use 99% hoods on the T3 & its not taken much to get use to, i did 65 mile with no probs. Gear wise the T3 feels to high so i change gear to suit my legs "cadence" i think it is, avg about 75. I changed the cassette for a 11-28 this helps on the hills . bottles i use a hydration back pack @ use fluid from the bottles as a reserve. I don't like using bottles on the move .

Chum
I have only moved to my T5 from a MTB and like you it feels weird and like you I cant master drinking from my bottle, however it will come.
I remember last June when I was a born again cyclist and I had all the same issues with my MTB especially drinking. Add a few rides you will be fine

spaceflight: with you being under 6ft you are ideal for the 57. I'm only 5'9-5'10 and im riding a 57 and i'm slowly gunna need a longer neck stem but apart from that its ideal. and im a 30' leg. I was just looking on the French Decathlon site as they have a size slider, and as you say, it recommended the 57" What i did discover is that for a competition BTWin bike, a 55" is a better option for me, which I imagine might have a similar geometry to my Focus. Admittedly, the T7a i tried wasn't set up correctly (saddle to low), but it did feel too much of a reach. Annoying that BTwin dont publish the geometry of their bikes. Arny, do you know the length of the 57" T7a stem? Thanks

Thanks If you look on the new T5a and T7, they actually state the length size and on the 57 i think it was 100mm but dont hold me to that as im not 100% and instead of 20 mm difference, its actually 10 per bike but again, ill have to find this out. On the triban range, there COMPACT frames which slope down slightly giving it s larger size but on the Facet 3, you can clearly see the cross bar that it is completely horizontal. thats y its best do try the size down first.

I just bought a Triban 5a. Had a tiny little ride today and not set up the seat properly yet but worrying now it may not be the right size. It's a 57 and I'm 6'2ish and a 34ish leg. The store didn't have a 60 5a in to try, but I probably should have tried a 60 T3 or T5 instead. The thing is it's my first road bike, so I'm not sure exactly what "comfortable" should feel like. According to the French Decathlon size guide here: www.decathlon.fr/ecfr/m/zip/45418_1_dir/www/conseils-velo-choisir-velo-04-comment-bien-choisir-son-velo-de-route.html#conseil-4I should be okay leg length for a 57 but am a bit tall for it. It may not matter that much as I'm probably not going to be going for that many long rides. P.S. Thanks for setting up this form, it's very helpful and was a big factor in me choosing a Triban.

Actually I haven't tried - too scared to maybe

Spent an hour in Decathlon Warrington tonight with an extremely helpful chap, trying the different bikes. He let me have a ride around the shop on them.
They had 2 57 T5a's and 1 57 T7a.
We measured the frame and i made notes. then i had a ride on the 57 T5a and a 54 T5. the 54 T5 instantly felt better. comparing the measurements to my Focus Cayo, the head tube on the 54 is almost the same, the top tube length is almost the same. The Focus has a fatter head and a slightly longer stem, but overall, measuring straight from the centre of the handlebar to the middle of the seat tube, they are almost exactly the same.
The seat tube length is greater on the focus but there is more exposed above the top tube junction than on the T7a, but the T7a does have more slope on the top tube than the Focus.
Since my Focus was professionally fitted for me, i think the 54 is the one to go for. but its good that the 28 day returns policy allows me to test it thoroughly.
I'll have to order one in. The guy said the turnaround is about 2 weeks.
Just need to get the cash together...

Try this for size then, switching bottles between cages whilst moving I have a weird thing about drinking from the bottle in the cage on the down tube. cant explain why. another good one, trying to get a gel out of your back pocket with big gloves on. had to do this on the club run on Sunday, but ended up with a glove in my mouth, then had to try and get the thing back on whilst steering and holding the gel with my other hand. had a twitchy moment, but managed it

Just enough to hold it there. Easy to just tear off as you need them.
