Do Decathlon generally get their stuff out on time? One of the reasons I bought the 3a when I did was because they'd already moved the in-store date for the new bikes from March, and I felt there was a possibility of further delays.

The forum is only a year and half old - this is the second set of new bikes (the pending ones) that we have experience of ... I would usually expect more than 1 event to be able to predict what's usual . What we do know is they are a big retailer with bikes sold amongst an inventory of huge quantities of other types of product and this means that (perhaps understandably) the ordering and stocking system take some managing; we also know that the staff who use it everyday struggle sometimes ... saying that, good things come to those who wait but on the other hand, there's nothing wrong with getting on with it, as time in the saddle means hitting the peak season ready to roll well and not playing catch up by starting up at the best time of year.

Fair enough! My ex is French and when I said how refreshing and fun it'd been to ride around a shop when trying out a bike, she said she spent countless times in her childhood doing the same, so I think I'd sort of assumed that Decathlon weren't perhaps as new to mainstream attention as they perhaps are (in the UK, at least). Hope everything's available on time to those toughing-out the wait!

I think it's fair to say that whilst cycling is more popular generally elsewhere due to fuel prices etc - the UK TOC are riding the wave of the 'Wiggo effect' .

Bolton are expecting the new models starting to arrive in store from early April. The assistant also said that Decathlon are going to increase the amount of own brand stock that replicates the well known brands.
For example: I picked up a bag of own brand "Aptonia" ISO powder 480g for Β£3.99. In comparison to a tub of Isostar on the shelf above the nutritional information was more or less the same.
Decathlon at Bolton had a lot more cycling stock in compared to my last visit.

Do you not think its a odd time to be launching the bikes?

Depends, not really for the lower priced offerings, perhaps a bit for the higher spec' stuff but who knows? New recruits fancy going cycling when the sun shines; everyone I know who thought I had gone mad to start cycling in December 2012 are now convinced I'm totally mad to have done it all through the last year and a bit; this winter when often out for a few hours in the rain, I suspect it has just proven to them that they were right .

Felt mad today in that grim rain.
