A helmet cam as well. For commuting anyway. You never know.

Went out yesterday. Nice sunny day. 5 degrees. set off 11.30 Just cruising with my OH Round a bend ........ and woke up in an ambulance 40 minutes later. Still can't remember anything. OH says I went down hard on black ice. Got up ans said I was OK , carried on pedalling until the next junction (half mile?). I don't remember talking gibberish, being taken to a house, getting agitated, or anything until the nice young men in their clean white coats .......... Scan, xray, mild concussion bent bike, bruises ............ and a cracked helmet. Why wouldn't you wear one? Hope you're feeling ok and can get back on the bike soon.

It can be bloody lethal out there

Thanks for all the kind words. Feeling much better now.... aches and pains, but nothing worrisome. Fetched the T3 back from it's temporary home this morning . It looks OK except for the brake lever LHS being bent right round.... any advice for fixing it (can I just bend it back??) would be appreciated.
Went for a walk(!) today.

Glad feeling better oldtimer. Take care and rest up. Yes may be able to just bend it back round but probably easier/better to unwrap bar tape, then put shifter straight, then rewrap tape if it's round quite a lot.
Is deraileur hanger ok (if fell onto rear deraileur then usually bends)?

Glad you are alright did you see the ptogramme on channel 5 where the girl fell over bike and was taken to hospital totally lost all sense of what was going on and she was lucky enough to have her helmet on. Think the programme was work hard or go home. Very interesting in what can be achieved if a camera is stuck in your face.

I watched that program (Go hard or Go home) last night, it was clear the lady doctor had concussion after her first fall and bang to the head (I personally think her condition was not sufficient to start the race). Would have been very dangerous for her to get back on the bike, she was in a bad way. Think you must have experienced something similar oldtimer with your fall this week, glad to hear you are feeling better

thanks .... rear dr is fine (fell the other way!) Good, I was a bit worried there. Seriously though, that's a tough break. Sounds like your helmet may have prevented something far worse though. Hope you're back to full fitness soon oldtimer but with any head trauma I think it always pays to be a bit over cautious. Personally I always wear a helmet no matter how short the ride or how hot it is. I'm still surprised some club riders who should know better ride without them, including the ride leaders of 2 of my local clubs. Old skool/never had helmets in my day brigade.

Always worn one.
An ex-boyfriend of my sister once had a nasty accident with a bus. He was told his helmet basically saved his life.
Life versus looking a bit stupid: easy decision.

I always wear one. I knocked myself out as a teenager when I came off my bike and woke up in hospital, could have been a lot worse. I have friends who never wear one when we go out on the bikes, but will wear a wooly hat! 'We're only on the Trans Pennine Trail', 'Yes but we have to travel half a mile by road to get on the trail'. They still don't bother.

I've been a biker for many years so it would feel strange not to don a lid. I wear a pair of thin leather motorbike gloves as well. Being diabetic my hands and feet don't heal well so it's just common sense. With everything else on the road L-bent on trying to kill you its time we took self preservation seriously. As with motorbike lids a good fitting cheap and cheerful is better than a poor fitting posh'un ;-)

Always wear one. Although the other day I went in to decathlon and forgot to do it up when I came out.
A little off track but I find it amusing that they don't mind if I take my bike in with me to buy stuff. I've even started riding into the shop! lol

Only just recently bought my Triban for Xmas and I had already purchased a helmet beforehand knowing I wouldn't ride without one.
