I'm a bit lacking in the winter kit department still. I have the Aldi arm and leg warmers, 1 pair of padded tights, fleece neck warmer and an under-helmet cap. I really need some thin but warm gloves (I have the Aldi winter ones but they are too much really for when it's just cold out) and I need some shoe covers. I think I'll be good with the leg warmers and tights (even if I have to layer them) but I'll need something better for my top half. A warm vest or winter jersey maybe. I have a waterproof jacket but like the gloves that's just too much when it's cold out. Even when it's raining I eventually get far too warm with it on. I use a t-shirt under my jersey at the moment, it seems good once I'm warmed up, but not when I'm just starting out.

You should at least treat yourself to a good base layer, Steph. That'll take care of your perspirations (I know ladies don't sweat, they perspire!) and wick the moisture away from the body, keeping your core warmer. That'll be important once the winter really starts. Wrap up, take care!

See if the Planet x Autumn bundle is still available, cause the gloves in it are just the ticket and the rest of the package is not too shabby either. Can't recommend the gloves highly enough.

Can't recommend the gloves highly enough. I had been looking at Planet X ones (unfortunately can't afford the full bundles, just the gloves) and was going to post for opinions. Can't get the website to work but it's the Wind block ones from the winter bundle I was considering. £4.99 seems like a bargain. If anyone knows of a base-layer type top that is less than £10 then I'd be sorted, I have a feeling that's a little optimistic though and I'll need to spend a bit more.

I have the b'Twin full finger gloves - they are great, not too much for the weather now, padding is good, and should be fine until it gets quite a bit colder, in which case I'll switch to the Planet X winter ones from the winter bundle, which seem nice and snug. I have the Aldi waterproof ones in reserve too...

It's about now that places like Sports Direct break out their base layers ready for the ski season, worth a look there, I have a couple of sets of base layers from SD bought last year which are still going strong.

This is a good shout. I was in there at the weekend and they were doing short sleeve tops 2 for £10 and long sleeve 2 for £12 I believe. They had bottoms as well but I didn't see the price. A cheap way of keeping the cold out whilst building up the kit.

I have both Aldi and the Planet X. The PX are lots more lightweight than the Aldi ones, the Aldi ones feel like the ones I had as a kid to play snowball fighting with :-) your hands kind of get lost in them but will be good when it is very cold/biting wind. The PX ones are lighter weight, lots more flexible and will keep you warm now and over the winter.

My winter kit (so far) is: Castelli Diluvio Deluxe gloves, Castelli Nanoflex leg warmers, NetApp Endura arm warmers, Vermarc Overshoes, Aldi Gillet with removable arms, Aldi packable rain jacket (waterproof but definitely not breathable, so probably good to wear when the temperature drops if nothing else!), Phillips Saferide 80 front light (if I know I'll be out when it's dark), Moon Meteor front light (200 lumen, good for during the day flashing or if I get caught out. Plus it's proper tiny to boot & charges off USB!), Cateye TL-LD600 rear light (an LED strip with some decent flashing options - they seem more random which is good to attract drivers' attention), Blackburn Mars 4.0 rear light (really bright 1 watt bulb with decent side light spill for drivers to see), Buff with fleece lining.
I need to probably invest in a new set of bib shorts and a jersey that are a bit more thermal for when the temperature drops further & a set of neoprene overshoes.
I've heard the Endura Equipe superstretch thermal overshoes are the absolute Dog's B's, but for £35 I'd rather use my cheapo Vermarcs coupled with some Planet X/Save Our Soles merino wool socks and put the money towards the shorts & jersey first. I'm currently looking at the Sportful No Rain bib shorts (sister company to Castelli so is made of the same thermal & water resistant material as my leg warmers) & a Torm merino wool jersey, although it would be a lot of money to shell out this close to Christmas! I may just use the turbo trainer instead for now!!
