Any suggestions for an equally good front light around the same price? A friend of mine got these Comet Moon lights and they're excellent but I don't really want to pay that much:

Have there been any problems with the bracket on the Smart Lunar because some of the Amazon reviews say it's quite weak?

I bought this recently when it dropped below £10 on Amazon and it's certainly bright but it has one big negative. Removing the casing to access the batteries is a nightmare. I've got a pretty strong grip but the force needed is ridiculous, made more difficult because of the sloping sides of the casing. You have to pull back one of the plastic 'wings' as you pull on the casing and the force required is so great it feels as if it could easily break. Compare this, say, with the much better method on the similar spec MetroFlash Dangerzone which has a groove in which you insert and twist something like a coin. 3 star Amazon review for me.

This R2 is def the best light regarding bang for buck, but bright viewing angle is very narrow.
Cateye TL-LD1100 is slightly better with a wider bright viewing angles, but is way more £££.
Exposure Flare is nothing short of amazing. No one is going to miss it. Happy with this.
The Cateye omni 5 is very meh. Not good enough on it's own.
I hear good things about the Moon Shield 60 but only usb charging and no replaceable battery...please.
Don't skimp on lights. I saw a motorcyclist get knocked off at a crossroads in the dark last week. Car driver did not see him. And think how bright motorcycle lights are. There are flowers at the scene now. Should I assume he died?

This R2 is def the best light regarding bang for buck, but bright viewing angle is very narrow. Absolutely right, and for me it's a very big negative and I'm surprised no previous purchasers here mentioned it. I certainly wouldn't have bought it if I'd known just how bad it is. Both the horizontal and vertical maximum brightness angle ranges are very narrow, and it's very difficult to achieve an optimum vertical angle because the bracket notched screw recess only allows vertical adjustment in fairly large increments which, for me, means the angle is either too high or too low. Certainly bright when right behind it at just about wheel level but much away from this position and there's an alarming drop off in brightness. I know some people prefer the flexibility of separate batteries but a friend of mine has the front and rear Moon Comets. When available they can be had on Amazon for as low as £17 each. I've compared the rear directly with the Smart Lunar and brightness is about the same but the Moon maintains maximum brightness over a very wide vertical and horizontal angle. This would have been my choice of rear light if I'd realised how bad the Lunar was beforehand.
