Yes true, it is doable for thousands of amateurs on bread and water but probably not after a 200km stage of climbing and three weeks of racing beforehand apart from those who do La Marmotte.
Probably didn't explain myself well but if you take the Armstrong era and the 90s, nearly everybody was doping but I still admire the feats of those guys and it was a great sceptical to watch on the TV. I'm not saying at all that you need to dope to complete the climb, but I'm sure a bit of EPO is a greater aid than a few Jaffa cakes!

Fair play William, good effort and go again next time! Have to agree with Rad that just because us amateurs may not be able to crest it (I speak for myself), doesn't mean those that make it look easy are bending the rules, they just put ridiculous levels of graft in (in the main, at least).
Cracking go, hope it's fired you up for another attempt.

We've done this to death - look in the members area, as we try not to taint current cycling with the sins of the fathers on this forum ; the TdF did Alpe d'Huez twice this year and it is widely believed that the new era are tackling it all clean (there are still some abusing the system but the culture has changed), we have to believe in that, or the future of the sport is doomed. Froome popped a fuse on this climb you'll remember - they are human.

Amazing what amateurs can do, know a couple of fit guys who've just done Raid Pyreneen - 720km over 18 Cols in 100 hours. Would love to do it but without the time limit. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raid_PyrΓ©nΓ©en
