ok and what are the perks of the 26? P.S. Thanks! Closer gear ratios so easier to find just the 'right' cadence for your legs

Just a little hijack of this thread -
I put some R501 Wheels on my T3 last Friday and only got around to actually riding it today due to being busy with work (yuk) etc.
Wow, they roll sooooo much smoother than the stock wheels (I didn't grease them up as recommended on these forums as I'd already ordered the new ones when I read it was worth doing). Not sure about extra speed yet as I've only ridden 2.5 miles to work and will go for a longer ride this afternoon, but it's certainly very noticeable how much the bearings are an improvement.

Just out of sheer curiosity, would the R501 wheels be considered an upgrade for a T7 as well or would something higher up the price be needed? Only reason I ask is the comment above about the freewheeling....ive noticed that my T7 does not freewheel anywhere neer as long as my hybrid or mountain bike as when I lift these to carry up 3 flights of stairs the wheels are still spinning by the time I get to my level....the wheels on the T7 stop about half way....nothing is rubbing and the bike feels great but did wonder why there was a huge freewheel difference? Thanks

Thanks It seems the hubs on all the Tribans are an issue. I would seriously give them a check and regrease, and adjust. If you want to go new route maybe mavic askiums or shimano rs30s (what I have) are a popular upgrade. But tbh anything is an improvement on the standard hoops.

Well I bought cycling plus this week and noticed that although described as 'entry level' after market wheels, there are a lot of bikes over £2k that seem to be fitted with R501s off the shelf.

I spotted those bikes as well in CP, bit of a shocker really, If I'd spent that much on a bike and found the wheels could be had for £75ish I'd be a bit gutted That said I've no complaints, I think the 501's are a good match for the T3, still loving mine!!!

Thanks for this thread. I don't even have my T3 yet, but know that the wheels will be the first thing to get upgraded and the 501's were my first thought, as they appear to be the cheapest. I'll stick with the stocks for the time being (and hunt down the greasing tips on this forum), but good to know I can get some entry level upgrades for a mere £75.

Being a bit of a numpty when it comes to upgrades on bikes.....what are the benefits to getting the RS30 over the R501? On ribblecycles website there is a mention of the RS30 having a: Labyrinth and contact sealing - low-friction seals effectively shut out water, mud and dirt without affecting rotational smoothness Does this mean the R501 dont have this? My T7 is going to be used in all weathers and want best hub protection.

Hmmmm there doesnt seem to be much difference between the two models listed....unless im missing something completely obvious? Im going to see if I can find details specs of the standard wheels on the T7 to try compare them to the shimano ones. Think that if the R501 wheels are good enough for far more expensive bikes then I reckon they should be a good enough upgrade for a T7 too?

I fitted R500 (501?) wheels to mine at the beginning of spring and - yup.....noticeable improvement over the stock wheels and only 70 quid or so from Ribble. I too have noticed that they come fitted to lots of £1000+ bikes 'off the shelf'.
Can't say I was overwhelmed by the sram 850 11-28 cassette I fitted at the same time. Seemed rather clanky and noisy in the higher gears. I replaced it with a bargain-basement Shimano HG equivalent just recently and it has been better. Watch out for rear d/r clearances though with this wheel/cassette and derailleur combination. It's all a bit tight IME.
Best

yep R501's fitted to my T3 too. For the limited outlay, a massive improvement in my opinion.

Planet X were doing Shimano R501s for £59.99. Brilliant value. Fitted Schwalbe luganos and PG850 11-28. The bike rolls beautifully now. Sold 12-25 cassette and Btwin wheels for £30 to mate, so upgrade relatively cheap...but what a difference! Saved 500gms on original weight and it runs really smoothly. Also swapped the over-long stem for an Ant 60mm..much less stretch! Added Crud racer 2 mudguards spd pedals and a Sella Riva saddle. Got the original Triban3 for £250 because it had a little scratch on frame. This was original red £299 bike. With upgrades, my total spend is under £400 and it now matches any bike under £1000 except for the old thumb button gear shifts. I ride on the bars most of the the time, so it's hardly an issue.
