Very well done mate! That is quite the story! What was your time? Time was 4hrs 33 which was 2 hours faster than the L2B but that was all down to number of people.

Don't underestimate how little the kids know about roads - my lad handles his bike well but that didn't stop him dismounting into the road on the A38 here the first time we went out ... they simply aren't programmed to use roads and don't get the concept of road sense to begin with, as they're busy just moving along. We live on a road that is statistically silly fast (the majority speed at an unsafe level over the 50mph) - it's been tested a few times and is down to be calmed at some point but the council keep shedding the person responsible and not doing anything. The worst part for us, living in a hamlet on an A road where no-one considers it worthy of even easing up a little, is crossing the road to get to better lanes. Commuting hours are crazy and we have 18 wheelers off the motorway to deal with as well. Summary - choose times of day and routes wisely. I am surprised how with a lad in tow (or up front) and moving less aggressively when compared to pushing on, that box sitters become all testy and impatient; when it's just me firing along they don't appear to treat it the same. My daughter did cycling proficiency at school (she tells me what to do at junctions!), but I agree it doesn't stop the silly beggars on the roads. A bus got too close to us once when I will taking her out in the countryside. I took the number and rang the depot the next day to complain. They took it very seriously, said that they would talk to the driver directly and also would be issuing updated guidelines. I was very impressed.

Sorry Havoc,
I realised that we started to hijack this thread talking about junior riders. Well done on the time and for keeping the T3 'end up' (so to speak).
