I was looking for a cheap wireless computer that could be stem mounted. I liked the sound of Aldi's feature rich £6.99 offering, but this can only be bar mounted, so I bought Lidl's similarly featured and identically priced computer last night.
So far I've been extremely pleased with it. I've had a variety of computers over the years, all far more expensive, but the Lidl exceeds all of them in feature count, and is generally their equal in performance (I'll have to wait to see how reliable it is). For instance, Halfords cheapest wireless computer is listed at £19.99 but has far fewer features.
Back to the Lidl. One thing I really like is the ability to customize it to activate just the functions you want, very useful as most people will probably not want all 20 or so, and scrolling through them all is rather laborious. The display is clear and a little larger than average. It naturally takes a while to set up all the functions but nothing too taxing. It was fairly easy to install, but remember that the sensor unit should be fitted with the battery compartment side facing outwards as the sensor is on the other side. Something else worth mentioning is the sensor/magnet gap tolerance is less than many people will be used to. It should be no more than 2mm but, in fairness, the instructions do make this clear.
One slight criticism is that the computer has to be manually 'woken up' if it is inactive for five minutes or more, and simply continuing on your journey won't do this and, of course, if you forget, your final trip data will be wrong. Other than that, if you're looking for a cheap, wireless, feature laden computer that can be stem mounted, I know of no other that comes close to it. Highly recommended. If there are any reliability issues I'll report back.
VERDICT: A Scuttle best buy
