Strava spoke to me over my head phones last night, it gave me a segment time; it then lost the ride a few hundred yards later. Perhaps it was a coincidence but the actual time data alone meant nothing and I'd rather it didn't interrupt my tunes and kept it's eye on the ball. Some of the local routes have dozens of segments so I will be inundated with nonsense from the talking clock and if it is going to make recording the ride unstable then what's the point - KISS!

Is there a way of turning just the segment data off but just giving you your split times ? Btwin Rock rider 6.0 red Btwin triban 3 red

My phone sits in my jersey pocket until I'm back at my front door. I do t want the distraction on real time data when I'm out. I've even removed my basic computer. I can tell my average speed very accurately just from the effort I'm putting in.

I'm with germcevoy, I'm not really competing with the circuit or my own times for that matter for the majority of my rides, sometimes I might go for a segment I've been going through regularly, if I'm in the mood but that's not the aim of the ride - you'll likely be forever fighting the clock and getting out of shape if every segment time starts becoming an issue, some of my loops there will be circa 10 or 15 in a one hour section. I think it just told me the name of the segment and the time it took 'Oldbury Lane, 2 minutes 59' - I didn't even recall it being a segment previously. I will try it again later on a busier segment route and see how I feel then.

I hate segments. Nice concept ruined by people just making dozens and dozens of them that are just stupid. I recently flagged one that started and finished at either side of a busy junction. Others are 0.1 and 0.2 miles in length. I'm not busting a ball for that.
I like doing a regular route and seeing a few PR's. That's about all.

I wonder if you can couple the real time feature with the 'my segments' feature, so you just hear about the segments you've previously 'starred' and are most interested in, filtering out the other stuff.

I see no problem with them as long as you can opt out of audible announcements, the daft ones can be flagged, so that's fair enough - just looking for the ability to turn it off now though! Segments can be fun at times, I doubt I'd be getting as fit as I am without a measure of progress on occasions; a bit like beer drinking, it's OK in moderation !

I got the update but don't really use it. Use my Garmin instead and export to Strava online. I have moved on mate lol

I liked the audio coach on Endomondo Pro, could set it to tell you how fast you did each mile or so. Far more handy than reporting segments I think.
Tend to only use Strava now though, there are plus and minus point to both apps.

Audible Notifications - Tech Solution FoundSBS 1. Go on phone app'. 2. Go to 'Settings' top right (3 vertical dots). 3. Click on 'Notifications'. 4. 'Audio Notifications' tick box is at the bottom, allowing you to switch it on or off. Now I know I can turn it off, I'm OK with it, might leave it on - man I'm fickle !

Map my ride had a notification where you could set it to tell you your avg for last 5-10 miles or kms. Much more useful. All this will do is get people chasing the same segment .

There's usually 300 - 600 people on the ones around here anyway; because there are a lot of serious cyclists training on the loops for TT's etc, people know the 'real' ones v the nonsense ones, the decent segments tend to ask a fair bit of you to get anywhere on them and aren't usually short, unless they're there as a training aid to get people over the odd lump. I tend to ignore segments unless they become a part of a particular loop that develops as a bit of a standard run. There have been some storming fast folks through many of them recently around here - I keep an eye on two or three in the locality.

I do a hill sprint where's I'm placed 160-odd out of 1,000+ rides, I'm as chuffed with that as my one and only genuine KoM!
