same as above from everyone. drops for me, especially when I know the downhill and know the road surface. I do envy the upgraded brake shifters as at times I want to go into a lower gear and pedal down that hill. I find coming back up from the drop, onto the tops a bit precarious at such speeds.

On the drops covering the brakes with 2 fingers. This. Especially going down single lane country roads.

I wonder how Chris Froome felt when his fiancΓ©e publicly nicknamed him as her Froomedog on Twitter. And back to the original question, until(if) I get cross levers its always on the drops because its so much easier to brake when (not if) I panic.

drops, puts your centre of gravity low and thus you stay on your bike when cornering at speed, have a little weight at the back too so that your back wheel isnt skipping best advice is relax, dont grip the bars too tight and just hover on your seat +1 This is pretty much how i do it. I feel safer this way as i know i can cover the brakes easier

Lots of good advice here, but for me, always the drops. In the last 10 days I can give two examples of descending where I needed to be in the drops. One was coming down a 33% narrow and windy country lane in the wet, with the brakes virtually clamped on. There was water and mud on the road and the slowest speed we hit was 7mph. The other was flying down a hill in France (London-Paris with a group of friends), warm day, sun shining and a dry grippy road. The highest speed I hit was 44.7mph All on my T3.
