Shaving legs is for pro athletes and even then, swimmers only but I'll repeat red's "each to their own." I'm hairy like a 70's plumber in them movies I'm curious o, is it cycling related or you just felt like it? lol

I'm on the fence about leg shaving. If I was lucky enough to get a post ride massage then I'd do it no problem. Other than that though I see no direct benefits to myself other than some slight time savings when drying when just out of the shower. A bare leg would also make treatment a little easier if you come off and scuff yourself.

I don't grow any hair on my legs, they look as if they have been shaved, which in turn makes me look a bit of a poser.
But weirdly enough since I've been cycling a while, I've noticed that a few hairs are starting to grow, and I keep seeing more of them! It may be some reaction to my legs being in the open more often, I wasn't a huge fan of shorts as the sight of me in them was enough to frighten horses and make charitable people proffer money.

Pro cyclists and other top atheletes shave their legs for one reason only, aesthetics. A shaved, oiled, well defined skin busting calf muscle looks and can be seen better when devoid of hair. All the arguments about aerodynamics and lower risk of infection through gravel rash etc are just an excuse to justify shaving. I did it when I was younger but only seemed to manage the shaved and oiled result lol and living in Scotland there wasn't enough sun to make them look anything other than blue. As a little advice for anyone wanting to try I found shaving in the shower using cold water was best, think I used baby oil and disposable razors iirc.....

Oh dear Lord! Not my cup of tea, I prefer my naturally hairy pins. Each to their own of course. I just hope this thread doesn't degenerate into a preferred razor/hair removal cream discussion! Why do serious cyclists shave their legs anyway? I believe they do it so when they fall off and put on a plaster it doesn't hurt when they pull it off. I waxed mine for charity a few months back in readiness for a charity ride. I charged people $5 a strip.. must admit I did like them nice and smooth ;-)

I think it's just easier with the frequent massages and rubbing in embrocation. Never done it myself and a bit old to start now

To be honest, when you have the amount of trouble growing hair on your head that I do. I am not going to remove it from any areas of my body where it is prepared to grow of it's own accord!

But Ohoward, surely if you still have the beard, that negates the benefits of shaving your legs? ;-) Hirsute all the way here i'm proud to say! :-)
