Hi
I was just wondering if anybody else has had problems with their Triban 3a I have had 2 (and riden each one only once!) in a week the first one the front derailler mount snapped causing the derailler to jam in the chainset throwing me off the bike and then the second one the rear gear shifter broke. When I took them back to the store the guys seemed a bit sheepish and offered me another replacement or refund. One guy in the workshop was really helpful and has advised that the computer system shows that there are 176 of the Triban 3 (red) 57cm due into the main warehouse tomorrow (18th June) ready for shipping out to stores. He is trying to get one of these reserved (he has said that stores can no longer place or reserve these for customers they will be on a first come first served basis in the store) for me due to all the problems which will be a great result as in his words the Triban 3 is far superior to the new Triban 3a and they aren't expecting to see anymore of the Triban 3's after this.
If you are in the market for a 57cm Triban 3 then it might be worth contacting your local store to see if they have any coming in because they are expected to go like hot cakes. Good luck

That's good to know, do you know about other sizes? I'm trying to get a 60cm for a mate.

No they aren't due to receive any 60cm according to the store, I had a 60cm in the white as that is what the store originaly said but when I sat and road the 57cm today it actually felt more comfortable I am 6' 1".

My mate is 6ft 1 1/2" so that is interesting. I have a 57cm and he has ridden it but he looks a little small on it. I suppose you can flip the stem.

I know I've already posted a thread about it, but I'd highly recommend the bike fit calculator here for him: www.competitivecyclist.com/za/CCY?PAGE=FIT_CALCULATOR_INTROUsing that calculator as guidance has meant I've now got the best (and most comfortable) set up that I've had since I've owned my T3 and is probably the closest to a professional fit I could get given that it requires 8 different measurements.

Hi savis, what store was this at please as I would like to try and get one of those? Hi It was the Lakeside store. I had a further phonecall last night confirming that one will be reserved for me due to my problems with the Triban 3a but he did say they would be getting a few as the batch of 176 would be spread out across all stores, he also said that they are expecting then in store next week but would ring if they came in sooner. It might be worth ringing a more local store if you have one to see what they can do, good luck. Hope you are successful as the red one seems a far better option in my opinion as my son has had his for nearly a year trouble free and I have had 2 white one's after just one week!!

Savis, if it works out for you, I reckon that is a great result, as I reckon you will notice quite a difference between the two bikes. By the way, i'm a tad over 6 foot and the 57 is perfect. the 60 is far too big.

Thanks for that stevo I am keeping everything crossed that lakeside don't let me down on the red one as you are right the service guy there really didn't rate the white one compared to the red. I was surprised how much more comfortable the 57cm was after being recommended the 60cm in store.

We should of course not mix flawed components with conclusions on the overall bike. It's clear the red t3 was great but doesn't mean that it's not had any components that have caused problems or could be better. Wonder if someone like Cycling Active could do a back to back?

True it is still a bargin for the price, as the heading states I was orginally asking if anyone else had problems. I orginally wanted a t3 as my son can't rate his highly enough but was advised there would't be anymore so had to plum for the t3a, as you say it would be great if Cycing Active could do a back to back review.

It's person opinion I guess - I took a look at the T3a at the weekend and thought it looked great for the money still - it's only £300 remember. Surely if your doing mid-high mileage then you should be looking for a higher / better spec bike?

Please don't get me wrong I am not trying to knock the brand as I say my son has a T3 and is over the moon with it hence me wanting to get my hands on one and I am always searching for a bargin. Yes you are right £300 is still a bargin for the T3a but only if you can ride the bike, I rode each one once and both developed the faults during its solo ride, which was my point as it would such a shame for the brand to lose its appeal due to having to use inferior parts/spec to keep it at the same price. In my mind it would be better to increase the price by even £100 to keep the spec the same as the T3 and in my view it would still be a steal over similarly priced bikes, rather than go down a route that MAY mean it becomes less reliable for example. I think the T3 was such a resounding sucess and wouldn't be surpise to find out that it was used as a loss leader to try and break the brand into the uk marketplace as I still can't work out how the T3 can retail at only £299. Both of my faults have been down to the changed spec gear shifting mechanism and was wondering if anybody else had similar problems, but judging by the replies they are not...........I must have been unlucky with the 2 I had.

They effectively have in the Black T5a. It's £429 with the same carbon forks and frame combo, but with an upgraded group set.
